South Military Highway to Indian Lakes Boulevard
Indian River Road between South Military Highway and Indian Lakes Boulevard is highly congested with numerous residential and retail shopping areas. It is also the primary access to one of Hampton Roads' most utilized Park and Ride lots. This study will focus on improving roadway and pedestrian safety, mitigating congestion, multimodal accessibility/connectivity (bicycle, pedestrian and transit), and transportation demand management (TDM) needs. It is intended to assess mid-term to long-term challenges/opportunities and will identify project recommendations that can be advanced for federal, state and local funding opportunities.
The Phase 1 survey regarding current transportation needs on Indian River Road between S. Military Highway and Indian Lakes Boulevard was completed in May 2025. The study team will use the input obtained from the public to better focus on solutions and develop alternatives to address the identified needs.
