Hansen Road TO I-64
The survey regarding potential transportation safety and operations improvements along Route 250 (Richmond Rd.) between Hansen Rd. and Hansens Mountain Rd. is complete.
The purpose of this study will be to analyze the operational and safety issues identified along US 250 between Hansen Road and I-64. The US 250 segment between Hansen Road and Rolkin Road has been identified as a Potential for Safety Improvement (PSI). Congestion has been observed along the segment heading towards I-64 with back-ups impacting upstream intersections and resulting in a high frequency of rear-end crashes. On-going and future development along Peter Jefferson Parkway will impact US 250 operations. Finally, the corridor has been identified in VDOT's Pedestrian Safety Action Plan (PSAP) 2.0 Priority 2. Pedestrian facilities are inadequate on and across US 250.
The study goal will be to identify cost-effective innovative solutions that will improve the safety and operations of the US 250 network. Intersection improvements will also evaluate reducing conflicts with bikes and pedestrians and minimizing travel distances on roadways. Grade separated bike/ped accommodations will be evaluated, as this may provide both safety and operational benefits. Bike/ped network connectivity and transit options will be evaluated to reduce future vehicular internal and regional trips and preserve capacity. The study team will also ensure that improvements are consistent with the County's comprehensive plan and contextually sensitive.
